HOUSTON – Houston Astros owner Drayton McLane told KHOU 11 Sports on Friday night that he is getting closer to selling the team, but would not confirm or deny that local businessman Jim Crane is leading candidate.

"When we get a deal done, we have a signed agreement," said McLane. "Until you get a signed agreement, there’s really not a lot to talk about."

The Astros have officially been on the market since late last year.

Forbes recently placed the team’s value at $474 million, a steep increase from what it was back in 1992 when McLane bought the team for $117 million.

Crane is no stranger to the business of baseball. Back in 2008, he was in serious talks with McLane to buy the team. But after talks broke down, the two sides went their own way.

McLane did confirm that several groups have expressed interest in buying the team he has owned for the past 19 years.
