HOUSTON – The Texans took the field on Monday for the first day of organized team activities. Linebacker Brian Cushing was there, but was on the sidelines, watching.

That won’t be the case when the season rolls around in September.

"I can definitely tell you that I’ll be ready for the first game of the season," said Cushing. "I’m pretty sure I’ll be ready for the first practice come Training camp."

"He’s doing great. He’ll be ready to go," said head coach Gary Kubiak. "Our goal has been training camp the whole time. If it was up to Cush, he’d be out here today."

Cushing tore is ACL during a Week 5 game against the New York Jets during the 2012 season. Since then, he’s been rehabbing to get back on the field, a process which hasn’t been easy.

"It’s just been frustrating, the wait," said Cushing. "The redundant rehab just over and over but it will all be worth it come that first game again."

"Considering where I was, there were some mornings where I couldn’t even walk but right now, it’s just night and day," said Cushing. "It’s in the past. It’s full throttle now and I’m going to go as hard as I can until I’m back."

From the very beginning, the Texans have been very careful with Cushing, who is a key part of the Texans defense for the 2013 season. The line backer says the process to get back to 100% has been long, but it has been productive.

"I think it’s gone very well. There haven’t been any setbacks. It’s felt great. I’m starting to feel like me again and that’s a hell of a feeling," said Cushing.
