CROSBY – Austin and Aston Walter, the dynamic offensive duo for the Crosby Cougars, signed their national letters of intent to play at Rice this morning.

“Its’ just a blessing to go just a couple of minutes down the street to play at a great university,” Austin Walter said. “It feels like we’re about to build something special.”

Austin Walter totaled over 2,000 yards on the ground for the Cougars during his final season. His brother, Aston, was the team’s quarterback, and racked up close to 3,000 total yards in 2013.

“I just want everyone to know that we’re about to put Rice University on the map,” Aston Walter said. “We have a great class coming in. When I put this hat now, I am representing Rice University.”

The Walter twins helped guide the Cougars to the most wins by any senior class in school history. Austin, who is primarily a running back, was recruited by several schools. For Rice though, Aston’s talents weren’t looked over, something which the quarterback appreciated.

“They wanted me for me, that’s what caught my attention,” Aston Walter said. “Some colleges just wanted my brother and wanted me to tag along, but Rice wanted me for me. And that meant a lot. Coach Bailiff is a great man.”

Those sentiments about Rice head coach David Bailiff were echoed by Austin, who knows that playing for the Owls is more than results on the field.

“It’s not just about winning for them. Of course winning is a great contribution, but it’s about being a great person,” Austin Walter said. “Coach Bailiff says that you can have all the talent in the world, but if you’re not a good person, then you don’t have anything.”

The brothers, who were born 3 minutes apart, plan on studying chemical engineering at Rice.
