Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent was released from jail Sunday morning, weeks before his next scheduled court hearing.
Brent — who was jailed after violating terms of his probation on an intoxication manslaughter charge — wasn't expected to be released until that July 19 hearing.
A Dallas County spokeswoman said Brent was freed at 10:21 a.m. per a court order. It was not immediately clear what factors were involved in his release.
Brent had been returned to custody on June 27 after failing a second drug test, a violation of his probation.
Brent was behind the wheel of a vehicle that crashed in Irving on December 8, killing teammate Jerry Brown.
Brent is facing up to 20 years in prison if convicted of intoxication manslaughter.
