HOUSTON – In an interview with the team’s official website, Houston Texans owner Bob McNair had nothing but praise for South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney saying he is “a remarkable player”.
Clowney is being projected as one of the top picks in the upcoming NFL Draft.
“He is one of these players that’s a once in every 10 years type of physical specimen that comes along. Mario Williams was that way,” McNair told TexansTV’s Drew Dougherty. “I think that Clowney is actually a better athlete than Mario so that tells you what kind of player he could be.”
McNair is a South Carolina graduate.
It is widely believed that the Texans will select a quarterback with the top overall pick. Louisville’s Teddy Bridgewater, Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel and Central Florida’s Blake Bortles are amongst those considered to be the best available options.
The draft is still four months away, but it’s clear that McNair was impressed with the defensive end.
“Like many of these fellas that have these great physical attributes, they didn’t have to work as hard in junior high school, in high school to be a superlative athlete because they had this natural ability,” McNair said. “He’s not a J.J. Watt. J.J. didn’t have that natural ability, he worked. He developed his.”
“One of the things I said to J.J. is ‘J.J. , I don’t know what will happen, but if we get Clowney, I want you to instill the same type of work ethic and work habits in him that you have.’ He told me that if he’s in the same locker room with me, he’ll have them’”
