HOUSTON - Watching the NFL championship games on Sunday just drove the point home even further to Texans fans that the key to open the door to everything is a great quarterback and we saw four of them on Sunday.
They dictate the flow of the game, they lead and the other 10 players on offense follow. Not having a quarterback is the main reason the Texans are sitting on the number one pick in the draft.
I’ve always said one of the best things about covering the Texans for their first ten years was having the privilege of seeing Peyton Manning play twice a year. Admittedly, I’ve seen Manning many more times than Brady, but I think Peyton is the best to ever play the game.
He’s a surgeon on the field.
The Texans made the wrong choice in #8 David Carr as their first quarterback, and then got a middle of the pack guy in #8 Matt Schaub and tried to make him the man here, a role that he gave up after he got a 4-year, $62 million contract with over 29 million guaranteed.
Now with the Texans back to square one this is where they find their franchise quarterback and I think Johnny Manziel could be that guy.
Then what they need to do is retire the number 8 from this franchise permanently.
