HOUSTON – The Bayou Bucket series between the Houston Cougars and Rice Owls will return to Reliant Stadium on Sept. 21 for the second straight season.
The game starts at 2 p.m. and will be televised nationally on FOX Sports Network.
Houston extended its lead in the series to 28-11 last season with a 35-14 win in front of 32,718 fans.
The 2012 game was the first neutral-site game since 2004, when the teams opened the season against one another at Reliant Stadium.
The series has been played annually since 1971. Houston and Rice have failed to meet on the football field just three times since 1971 (1996-98) when the series was interrupted by the demise of the Southwest Conference.
The Bayou Bucket is only one of two rivalry games that pits two major universities from the same city in an annual football clash, with the other being the UCLA-Southern California series.
Rice will be the designated home team for the game.
