PEARLAND - The Dawson Eagles seem to have a knack for finding running backs. This season, it was Junior Brett Winnegan’s time to step into the spotlight.
Winnegan accomplished the goal of 2000 yards by rushing for 254 yards in their regional semifinal victory over Magnolia West. Scoring touchdowns is great, but he says there’s nothing better than looking up and seeing the huge hole his offensive line has created for him.
But Brett’s athletic prowess isn’t limited to the gridiron. He won the long jump for his age group at the Junior Olympics, always trying to be the best at whatever he tries.
He’s not sure what his future holds or whether it will be in football or track, but being part of the growing Dawson mystique is good enough for now.
Daniel Gotera has the story.
