HOUSTON - The Houston Astros have activated outfielder Fernando Martinez and placed outfielder J.D. Martinez on the 15-day Disabled List.
J.D. Martinez sprained his right knee during the 4th inning in his second at-bat versus the Cleveland Indians Friday night.
Fernando Martinez, 24, appeared in 41 games with Houston in 2012, hitting six home runs and driving in14 RBI. This spring, he hit .344 with one home run and six RBI in 16 games. He was placed on the 15-day DL on March 27 with a strained left oblique and just completed a five-game rehab stint with Triple A Oklahoma City.
J.D. Martinez, 25, has started 12 of the club’s 16 games, hitting .244 with two home runs and seven RBI. He spent the entire 2013 season with Houston, after appearing in 20 games this spring. Martinez hit a two-run homer Friday night before suffering his knee injury.
