It’s always hard to see a friend struggle.
I consider Gary Kubiak a friend.
He is someone I’ve known since he was a 17 year old quarterback at St. Pius High School. He did struggle as a head coach and with me doing what I do for a living; I had to point that out. He understood that and he knew I was only doing my job.
Well after he got the news on Friday, he went to his farm in Plantersville to chill out and process what had just happened. He is a proud Houstonian, who badly, and I can can’t really express to you how badly, wanted to see a happy ending to this story book tale of the hometown boy coming home to try and lead his team to the promised land.
It just didn’t work out that way.
But as stung as he was by the events he showed a whole lot of class by taking out a full page add in the Houston Chronicle on December 8th, thanking the players, coaches and staff and the fans for 8 great years in his hometown.
I wish his coaching record was as good as he is as a person because if that were the case, the Houston Texans would be in the Super Bowl.
