Review: Razer Barracuda HP-1 Gaming Headphones
September 5, 2006
SURROUND SOUND: This set of headphones claims to be an actual 5.1 surround system built into a single headset, and for the most part, it delivers.
You can either plug the Barracuda into Razer's own AC-1 Gaming Audio Card using a specialized adapter, or plug the headphones into a regular sound card with an octopuslike cable that includes a USB plug and rear and front speaker plugs, a subwoofer plug and a microphone plug.
The sound is really great, and the headphones include a detachable microphone.
BOTTOM LINE: I had some trouble getting the microphone to work, and the headphones don't block out all noise, which can be good or bad.
But the sound quality is great — you really can hear the difference between an explosion in front of you and one behind you — and the headphones are very comfortable.
