Gary Cogill's Movie Reviews
Brideshead Revisited
02:11 PM CDT on Thursday, July 24, 2008
Brideshead Revisited is a consistently good but never great film version of the 1945 wartime British novel.
Matthew Goode plays Charles, the atheist maneuvering among Catholic aristocrats, in merry old England. There's a fine performance by Oscar-winner Emma Thompson.
Yet, there is something emotionally missing in this well-crafted adaptation that begs to go deeper and richer and more compelling. It works on a surface level and for fans of the immensely popular novel it might not be enough.
