A Grand Prairie couple said they are still in shock after their 2-year-old Shi Tzu dog ended up dead after taking him to a PETCO store for grooming.

Matthew and Christine Bean have a picture of "Scotch" displayed with his collar and ashes.
In June, Matthew and Christine Bean dropped off their dog "Scotch" at a Cedar Hill PETCO store for a routine grooming. A few hours later the dog was dead.
A PETCO groomer found Scotch near death after he was drying from a cleaning. The dog was taken to the veterinarian but died of heart failure.
Both Matthew and Christine Bean said the Shi Tzu never should have been put in a drying cage because the breed has difficulty breathing and can easily overheat.
"How can you let a little dog lay there and die and not do anything about it and turn around and say, 'We're a dog company. We love pets. We followed policy,'" said Matthew Bean.
Christine Winser-Bean said PETCO groomers should be more aware of medical emergency help for the animals.
"We want them to have an emergency plan," she said. "We want them to be able to do resistive efforts. We want their groomers to be CPR certified."
However, PETCO insists its groomers did nothing wrong.
"..Our groomers are not veterinarians," PETCO said. "They're not qualified to do CPR...There is no medical reason to believe that the groomers in the PETCO salon were in any way responsible for the death of Scotch."
PETCO put Scotch in a drying cage that is commonly used by some groomers, but not always used on Shi Tzus because of their so-called "push" face.
"Any short-nosed dogs like that, a bulldog, pug or Shi Tzu, are more prone to overheat because they have a short muzzle," said Joan Jung, of Shiloh Dog Grooming.
Meanwhile, the Beans have a second Shi Tzu named "Zoey" they said won't be going to the groomers anymore.
