A Houston contractor came upon an unusual scene in southeast Houston Thursday.

So far, the kitties seem perfectly content with their surrogate mom.

"This is the most unique situation I've ever witnessed -- a dog nursing kittens," said Napoleon Brauns II.

You heard right.

The contractor was working in a backyard on Southmore when he saw what he thought was a mama dog and her pups. But when he got closer, he realized those pups were actually newborn kittens.

SPCA workers picked up the kittens Friday and placed them in foster homes. They'll be ready for adoption in about six weeks.

They couldn't find the dog and hope she went back to her puppies.
