A 21-year-old woman hit a cyclist while texting, then told police officers, "I don't care".

A 21-year-old Australian woman is making national headlines over her cavalier attitude after hitting a cyclist. Originally reported by Australian newspaper, The Standard, Kimberly Davis' statements caused backlash from cyclists around the world.

Records show Davis used her phone behind the wheel 44 times.

She hit the cyclist from behind, even though he had lights on the bike. She dialed triple-0 (Australian's equivalent of 911), but refused to help the cyclist while they waited for first responders.

He suffered a spinal fracture. Originally, doctors told him he could be left a paraplegic. He spent three months recovering and is now able to walk again.

When interviewed by police two days later, The Standard reports she told police, "I just don't care because I've already been through a lot of ?!!?!!? and my car is like pretty expensive and now I have to fix it." And then, "I'm kind of pissed off that the cyclist has hit the side of my car."

Davis was in court April 14th. She lost her license for nine months and was fined $4,500.
