BEIJING (AP) — China is urging the U.S. to halt its "unscrupulous" surveillance of other countries, saying that a months-long investigation into reports of U.S. espionage has concluded that China is a major target of the spying.

The government agency report comes a week after U.S. prosecutors charged five Chinese military officers with hacking into American companies to steal trade secrets.

The report by China's Internet Media Research Center, carried by the official Xinhua News Agency, cited media reports of former NSA contractor Edward Snowden's leaks and said a subsequent investigation by Chinese authorities confirmed the spying allegations.

The Monday report said evidence shows China is a main target of the U.S. secret surveillance. The Internet Media Research Center is overseen by the State Council Information Office, the Cabinet's press office.
