PARIS (AP) — France's ruling Socialist party, reeling from President Francois Hollande's (frahn-SWAH' oh-LAWNDZ') record-low approval ratings and a string of embarrassing scandals, is bracing for a rout today in municipal elections across the country.

Meanwhile, the far-right, anti-immigration National Front aims to build on its surprisingly strong finish amid record low turnout in the first round of voting last week.

Many in France are expecting the vote to be followed quickly by a government shake-up in response to the electoral drubbing. Voters nationwide are disillusioned that despite Hollande's 2012 election pledge of "Change, Now," unemployment continues to rise and the economy continues to stagnate.
