BAGHDAD (AP) — At least 37 civilians are reported dead after a series of bombings targeting commercial areas in central Iraq today. Police say most of the blasts came from parked cars that had been rigged with explosives.
The attacks come a day after a series of explosions killed at least 24 people in different parts of Iraq.
Police say one of the car bombs targeted shoppers in a Baghdad neighborhood, killing seven people. In a city (Hillah) about 60 miles south of Baghdad, two car bombs killed nine people.
Bombings have increased in Iraq since last year, along with Sunni anger over perceived mistreatment and random arrests of Sunnis by authorities.
