DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) — Syria's state media say at least 34 people have been killed by twin suicide car bombs that ripped through a Damascus suburb early this morning.

The state news agency, SANA, says the bombers struck in a Christian and Druse area known as mostly loyal to President Bashar Assad. More than 80 people were injured.

One resident says the neighborhood was packed with rush-hour commuters. He says the second blast struck as people rushed to help those injured in the first explosion.

There's been no claim of responsibility for the bombings.

Meanwhile, fighting between rebels and government troops rages on in several parts of the country. Regime warplanes struck rebel-held areas in the northern Idlib province and Damascus suburbs, while rebels in northern Syria are claiming to have shot down an air force fighter jet.
