HOUSTON—The push is already on to hire seasonal workers for the holidays. 11 News looked in the companies and found some that are hiring right now that you might not expect. For kids out of school, Game Stop could be their answer to seasonal employment. It, along with other gaming stores, are in a rush to hire temporary employees. And at these stores, the college or even high school student can easily get a job, since they are so familiar with many of the video games on the market. For older adults or those not into the video-gaming world, home improvement stores are also in a rush to get their hires trained and in place before Thanksgiving. Anyone with craftsman skills is especially encouraged to apply. Whether you’re a painter, construction worker or plumber, these stores want people in their aisles with the appropriate skills. Toys R Us just opened a superstore off the Katy Freeway . It’s hiring both seasonal and full-time employees for that location, as well as many of its express stores in local malls. Jobseekers can also head over to a number of other retailers, including Macy’s, Target, JCPenney, Hobby Lobby, TJ Maxx and Marshall’s. They’re all looking for workers. In addition to those options, Hickory Farms and Continental Airlines have also hung the "help wanted" sign. Keep in mind, while the big-name retailers are hiring, overall they’re not hiring as many employees as they used to. Experts say they’re instead filling about the same number of jobs as they did last year, which are numbers based on a depressed economy. But don’t get discouraged—there are thousands of temporary jobs available right now. You just have to know where the jobs are!
