Crews clean up thousands of pennies after big rig crash

A tractor-trailer crashed and spilled blank pennies on Interstate 95 in New Castle, Del.

WILMINGTON, DEL. - It was a rough commute for people in Delaware as one of the state's major interstates is shut down Thursday morning after a tractor-trailer crash left blank pennies strewn all over the roadway.

The crash occurred around 1:55 a.m., according to The News-Journal, and the driver only sustained minor injuries and was assessed on scene.

The northbound lanes of I-95 were shut down at Route 141 through New Castle County while crews try to clean up the scattered pennies off the roadway.

According to CBS Philly reporter Chris Peralta, the crews have been cleaning the roadway all morning.

DelDot is diverting traffic to U.S. Route 13 northbound to I-295 northbound.
