Weather Blog: Swarms of Lady Bugs Reported!

I received the most interesting phone call today at work. A sweet lady, a resident of Trinity, called to ask if I knew anything about all the lady bugs she was seeing. She told me that they were so many of them that hundreds of them were gathering on her windows and on nearby trees near her house. I thought maybe the warm summer and Fall weather we've been having allowed the creatures to have an unusual 'bloom' of reproduction. But upon further investigation it turns out that this is simply the time of year for lady bugs to swarm tightly together while looking for a good spot to survive the coming cold winter.

According to folklore, lady bugs are supposed to bring good luck, a bountiful harvest and good weather. They love to eat aphids and in doing so protect our crops. Here's more on what these intriguing little creatures are all about.
