AUSTIN -- Austin police detectives are investigating what they call "a suspicious death" after a teenager was found dead outside of a South Austin home.

Police say a 13-year-old girl was found not breathing Tuesday in the 2400 block of Lakehurst Drive in South Austin.

A spokesperson for the Austin Police Department said neighbors saw a black car pull up to the home around 11 a.m. with a girl screaming for help inside the car. The screaming girl said her friend wasn't breathing.

"I was inside until I heard help, I didn't know where it was coming from. That's when the little girl was beating on the door, yelling help me, help me," said neighbor Rosie Taylor.

When police arrived they performed chest compressions on the teen and she was taken to Dell Children's Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Police say there were no obvious signs of trauma to the teen.

"That girl's 13, it's the new year. She didn't even get to see 14. It really is sad," said neighbor Alexa Camacho.

Neighbors said they saw teens partying at the home Monday night and didn't see them again until 11 Tuesday morning.

Police do not know who was driving the car or who the teens were with the night before.

"All we know right now is there's a young girl who should be home celebrating the new year holiday. Instead, she's not with us anymore," said Austin Police Sgt. John Sikoski.
