NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas -- The Memorial Day weekend started out with record rainfall across South Texas which threatened to damped the festivities on the Comal River. But by Memorial Day, the sun began to peek out of the clouds drawing thousands to dab on the sunscreen, pop open a cool beverage and slowly float down the river.

SAN ANTONIO -- It's time to pull out that banged-up ice chest from the garage and fill your tube full of hot air. The tubing season at Canyon Lake is now in full swing.

Despite the thunderstorm expected Sunday, and the cold and wet weather forecasted for next week, there are some who simply can't wait to dip their sun-deprived skin into the water.

It's been a long winter and, thankfully, warmer weather is now on the horizon. The first weekend in March has traditionally ushered in the season of bad tans and sunburn at the lake.

"More than a quarter of a million people vacation in the area every spring and summer season where they enjoy skiing and wake-boarding on Canyon Lake, tubing on the Guadalupe River, live music at Whitewater Music Amphitheater, several Texas Hill Country wineries and a variety of different and special local attractions."

The lake boasts more than 80 miles of shoreline, four marinas -- two public and two military -- and watercraft rentals.
