SAN ANTONIO -- A seat belt manufacturing plant worker died Monday after being crushed by an industrial press.

The 40-year-old factory worker fell into the press around 9:00a.m. Monday. Emergency workers quickly responded to a call from Takata Seat Belts Incorporated, but there was little they could do. Authorities pronounced the man dead at the scene.

San Antonio police are looking into the situation. However, it appears this was just a horrible accident.

A company spokesperson told KENS 5 they, too, are investigating. Plant operations were closed for the remainder of the day.

Takata's company website says it is dedicated to protecting human life. It produces 20 percent of all seat belts in North America. The company also manufactures air bags.

Company employees went with SAPD officers to notify the man's wife. The medical examiner's office is conducting an autopsy. Officials have not yet released the name of the man who died.
