SAN ANTONIO -- A man is recovering in the hospital after he was shot by Bexar County Sheriff's deputies Monday morning.

Investigators said San Antonio police initially were chasing the suspect when they noticed him driving erratically on Highway 281 near Martin and Lasoya Streets.

The driver refused to stop and SAPD asked for assistance of the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies took over and deployed spikes twice which finally stopped the driver on Loop 1604 near Laguna Road in southeast Bexar County just before 3:00am.

"Deputies were able to box him in once he stopped. The suspect reversed his SUV and slammed into two patrol cars and almost hit an officer," said Rosanne Hughes, BCSO spokesperson.

Investigators said two deputies opened fire and shot the suspect in the arm. He was taken to University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

It's not clear at this time if the suspect was armed or if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Loop 1604 near Laguna Road was closed from 2:00a.m. until 6:00a.m. while deputies investigated the scene.
