DALLAS - A frantic, three-day search for a Dallas-area college student came to an end Monday afternoon.

Yaseen Ali Abbas, a University of Texas at Dallas student, was found Monday after disappearing Friday morning. Abbas, known to friends and loved ones as Mehdi, was transported to Parkland Hospital in unknown condition.

Family members said8 Yaseen contacted the family around 3 p.m. Monday and said he had been picked up by paramedics in the Uptown area of Dallas. They were still unsure of his whereabouts over the last few days.

Friends and family notified the media, waged a massive social media campaign to spread the word, and planned a candlelight vigil for Monday night. Since Friday afternoon, they set up a command center at their mosque and have been frantically been handing out flyers in far North Dallas.

Abbas, 24, had last been seen Friday morning at his apartment off Coit Road and McCallum Boulevard near the University of Texas at Dallas campus.

Abbas is engaged to Anusheh Hemani, a graduate student studying communication disorders at UTD, said Michelle Aldridge, a clinical faculty member at the university. Abbas has plans to attend medical school in Galveston.

The candlelight vigil, originally planned for Monday night in Plano, has been canceled.
