SAN ANTONIO -- A young man traveling along a San Antonio highway lost his life in a gruesome Monday morning accident.
Police believe weather could have been a factor in the tragic serious of events that led to the fatality.
They said a man in his 20s was heading north on I-37 between Fair Ave and Carolina Street crashed a vehicle into a guardrail before 5 a.m.
But it wasn't that crash that killed the man.
Once he hit the guardrail, the driver, who was dressed in dark clothing, got out of his vehicle and proceeded to run across the highway, over the concrete barrier and into the southbound lanes of I-37.
That's where he was struck by a Isuzu truck. The impact threw the young man over the truck and into the bed of the vehicle, investigators said.
It's unclear why the man ran across the roadway.
There was a related third accident in the southbound lanes of I-37. The southbound and northbound lanes were closed while police conducted their investigation. Crews have since cleared the scene.
The victim's identity has not been released.
