COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The man who fell four stories while working at the Kyle Field construction site Tuesday has died, according to OSHA officials.
Angel Garcia, 25, was rushed to St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan but he didn’t survive.
"The thoughts and prayers of all of us at the A&M System and within the Bryan and College Station community are with the Garcia family," said A&M System Chancellor John Sharp.
Garcia was working for Lindamood Demolition when he fell from the north end of the stadium at 11:25 a.m. Tuesday.
"On behalf of Texas A&M University and the extended Aggie family I offer our deepest sympathy to the family of the construction worker who tragically passed away," said Texas A&M University President R. Bowen Loftin.
The job site was shut down after the accident.
The Texas A&M System, Houston-based Manhattan-Vaughan Construction, OSHA and Texas A&M University police will continue the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The stadium is undergoing a $450-million renovation that will essentially enclose the south end zone and bring big changes to the east side and student section. Phase two after the 2014 football season will include tearing down the west side and rebuilding it.
This is the second major construction site accident on the A&M campus this year. Four workers were injured in June when the new equine center facility collapsed as it was being built.
