FORT WORTH, Texas -- Fort Worth Fire Department investigators say a woman whose body was pulled out of the Trinity River Wednesday accidentally drowned.

Divers found the body at 2 p.m., about an hour after the fire department was called to the 2500 block of Parkview. Witnesses on the sixth floor of a nearby office building heard screaming and saw someone struggling in the river, said department spokesman Timothy Hardeman.

The witnesses ran to the river, but found nothing when they got there. It took divers about 20 minutes to find the woman’s body. Hardeman said she was located in the middle of the Trinity where the water was 12 feet deep. The spot was 100 feet downstream from a low head dam.

The woman is thought to be in her late teens or early twenties.  Her boots were also recovered, Hardeman said.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner will determine an official cause of death. The victim has not been named.

It's not clear why the woman was in the water –– the case remains under investigation.
