AUSTIN -- A vehicle fire in downtown Austin sent a man to the hospital with severe burns. The car exploded just after midnight Sunday in the AMLI apartment parking garage off Third Street and San Antonio.

Investigators believe the fire involved a scuba tank in the vehicle, which burned the victim. Shortly after EMS moved the victim, the fire spread to another tank and caused it to explode.

A witness told KVUE that the explosion sounded like an airplane hitting the building, rattling windows nearby.

The parking garage's sprinkler system contained the fire. The victim was taken to a burn center in San Antonio. No word on the extent of his injuries.

Investigators said while the scuba tanks contributed to the fire, the cause is undetermined.
