SUGAR LAND, Texas (AP) - Sugar Land's University of Houston campus is set to become a full branch of the flagship, bringing a university presence to one of the area's fastest growing communities.

The Houston Chronicle (http://bit.ly/SNOxng ) reports the campus will soon host at least 22 programs, led by the school of technology, as a full branch of the UH system. For the last 12 years, the Sugar Land campus has served as a teaching center that facilitates classes for other universities in the UH system.

The UH System board of regents this year approved shifting the campus to a full branch. Over the last few weeks, committees have begun meeting to plan exactly how all of the changes will roll out. The changes will happen slowly, in a two- to five-year window.
