BREAUX BRIDGE, Louisiana -- A Texas man is in custody after Louisiana State Police seized nearly 700 pounds of marijuana following a traffic stop on Interstate 10 east of Breaux Bridge.
State police say troopers stopped a 2012 Dodge van Monday at about 5:30 a.m. for a traffic violation. Troopers received permission to search the van and subsequently found 691.6 pounds of marijuana. Investigators say the illegal drug was destined for a location in Louisiana and had an estimated street value of more than $1 million.
Authorities arrested 38-year-old Pedro Matamoros, of Brownsville, Texas, on a charge of improper lane use and possession with intent to distribute marijuana. He is being held in the St. Martin Parish Jail.
Bond information was not immediately available Tuesday. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.
