HOUSTON – “Our new cover: It's time to pay college athletes, featuring Johnny Manziel.”
That was the tweet from Time Magazine early Thursday as the publication revealed its cover story due to hit newsstands on Sept. 6.
The story argues college sports are mass entertainment, saying “it's time to fully reward players for their work.”
Time says the debate has been simmering for years but has received new urgency after accusations were made that the Texas A&M quarterback received money for signing autographs earlier this year.
The NCAA and A&M both later determined the transaction didn’t take place, however.
