GUADALUPE COUNTY, Texas --Asante Arellano was set to turn 3 in August. His short life met a tragic ending sometime Friday.

Around 7:15 p.m. his mother found him unresponsive in the back seat of the family car.

The Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office said the child made his way inside the vehicle and was trapped unable to get out.

The website www.kidsandcars.org documents hot-car deaths. One report shows an average hot-car annual death rate of 37 kids. Last year, 33 children died in hot cars. Most often, a child is left behind and forgotten in the vehicle or, as in the Arellano case, a child wants to play in the car and is unable to get out alive.
