HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- A Dallas-area man heads to the Texas death chamber in Huntsville for fatally shooting a Brazilian newlywed couple nearly a decade ago in their suburban Dallas apartment.
Thirty-two-year-old Michael Sigala is set for lethal injection Tuesday evening in Huntsville for the death in Plano of 28-year-old Kleber Santos, an engineer whose wife was raped and also killed in the attack.
Authorities say Sigala was on probation for robbery and committed the slayings on a day when he was allowed to leave a substance abuse treatment center to seek a job.
He would be the third Texas prisoner put to death this year and the first of four scheduled to die this month.
The U.S. Supreme Court last week refused to review his case. No new appeals have been filed.
