UNIVERSAL CITY, TX -- A woman was arrested Wednesday after police accuse her of burning her toddler son with hot soup and a blow dryer.
28-year-old Jessica Rodriguez, who told police the incident was an accident, was arrested on a charge of injury to a child.
According to an arrest warrant, Rodriguez allegedly told her husband a bowl of hot soup was spilled on their one-and-a-half-year old son. In the report, she claimed to have treated the toddler's wound by using a blow dryer to cool it down and then rubbing mayonnaise on it just before putting him to bed.
Schertz EMS was called and the boy was taken to a hospital with second degree burns on twelve percent of his body, police said.
A nurse reportedly stated the boy also had bruises on his body.
Upon further investigation, police said they found the toddler and his six siblings living in filthy conditions.
Rodriguez' husband, 31-year-old Gabriel Ramirez claimed his wife had a drug and gambling problem that kept her out all night.
Ramirez was arrested in July on 8 felonies ranging from abandonment to injury to a child.
Since July, the children have been in the custody of Child Protective Services.
