DALLAS -- A man accused of placing his girlfriend’s toddler in a hot clothes dryer has pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Twenty-nine-year-old Bobby Lynn Curtis was sentenced Tuesday in a Hardin County courtroom.

Curtis could have faced up to 20 years in prison if convicted of first-degree injury to a child at trial. By pleading guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, Curtis received a 12-year term with credit for time served.

Curtis has been jailed since 2007 after being accused of putting his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter into a hot dryer after she objected to having her hair washed.

The girl had to be treated for first- and second-degree burns.
