PRINCETON, Texas — A Collin County family is getting notoriety they didn't expect, and in the beginning, didn't want.

It's all because of ABC's "America's Funniest Home Videos." The judges gave the Crookhams first place because of something that was put in the "wrong place."

The Princeton family won $10,000 for a video called “Butt Thermometer Mix-up.”

Tiffany Crookham thought she had a fever. So she went to the cabinet to get a thermometer. She didn't realize she was using a rectal thermometer.

The Crookhams shot the home video five years ago, but they didn't send it in until recently.

“At first, we thought it was somewhat hilarious, but embarrassing," said Paul Crookham, Tiffany’s dad. So they sent it in to the show.

They were invited to fly to California to be on the program, but they never expected to win first place -- and 10 grand.

“We didn’t know. We didn’t know we it would be a finalist. That’s for sure,” said Libby Crookham, Tiffany’s mother.

The Crookhams' friends say it's good karma. In the last five years, the family has taken in 13 foster children. They adopted the first baby they fostered.

“I just love babies. I just want to take care of babies," Libby Crookham said.

Tiffany said she's no longer embarrassed about what she calls a major miscommunication about the rectal thermometer.

“I dreaded it at first. But I've just come to accept it and realize it happens. It's kind of funny," she said.
