SMITH COUNTY, Texas – A woman was being questioned by authorities with the Smith County Sheriff’s Department and Texas Parks and Wildlife Wednesday about a burglary – and the apparent theft of a baby deer – at an East Texas hunting ranch.
It all started in May when a hunting ranch just outside of Canton, Texas – near Tyler – was burglarized.
The owner told authorities that someone took guns, electronic appliances and other items from his business.
He thought the stolen property was long gone, until earlier this week when he was checking his game cameras.
The cameras are set up to monitor game that comes to the feeding troughs at the ranch.
But the hunter noticed an image of a woman carrying a fawn on the cameras that matched the date when his property was burglarized.
Investigators said the woman has since been identified, and they’re in the process of filing charges.
