SAN ANTONIO -- Police responded to an officer-involved shooting around 8:30 Sunday night in the 7000 block of Culebra on the city's northwest side.
Police were chasing a male suspect, described as in his 30s, from a robbery, they said. The man then drove the wrong way on the Loop 410 access road and wrecked with multiple cars. No one was injured.
An officer chased the man on foot down Culebra, SAPD Chief William McManus said.
The officer was hit by a vehicle while chasing the suspect on foot but still managed to continue after the suspect, McManus said.
The officer was involved in a "physical exchange" with the suspect before he fired two shots and killed the suspect, McManus said.
McManus said the suspect was involved in multiple robberies and thefts throughout the day including a robbery of a Fairfield Motor Inn.
The officer was placed on paid administrative leave, per department policy. McManus said the officer joined SAPD in 2011.
