SAN ANTONIO -- A man allegedly caught performing a lewd act at a San Antonio city park was arrested for assaulting a responding police officer on March 13th.
According to an arrest affidavit, an undercover police officer witnessed 62-year-old Ruben Chavana exposed and masturbating inside a restroom at a city park, located in the 6400 block of McCullough Ave.
The officer reportedly walked out of the restroom and alerted other officers that he had enough evidence to arrest the suspect. During that time, however, Chavana had already walked to his car.
The officer, who was dressed in plain clothes, stood in front of Chavana's car, identified himself as a police officer and asked the suspect to stop the vehicle, according to court documents.
Investigators said, that's when Chavana drove the car toward the officer, striking him.
Chavana was able to get away that day, but thanks to a tip, investigators said they were able to identify Chavana and arrested him two weeks later.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety's sex-offender registry, Chavana is a registered sex-offender and has been convicted of indecent exposure twice in the past.
Chavana was booked into the Bexar County jail Tuesday on a charge of aggravated assault against a public servant. His bond was set at $50,000.
