KILLEEN, Texas -- Killeen police say a Fort Hood soldier died after being shot while at an apartment and investigators want to know who opened fire.

Police spokeswoman Carroll Smith says 22-year-old Joshua M. Wyatt was pronounced dead early Tuesday. Smith says the death is not considered a suicide. Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact police.

Officers late Monday responded to a Killeen apartment after getting a 911 call about a shooting. Officers found Wyatt at the residence, with a gunshot wound to the chest area.

Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke pronounced Wyatt dead shortly after midnight Monday, as the soldier was being transported to a hospital. An autopsy has been ordered.

A Fort Hood spokesman, Tyler Broadway, on Tuesday declined to release a hometown or further details on Wyatt.
