SAN ANTONIO -- A homeowner on the west side of town opened fire on two men trying to break into his house early Tuesday morning.

The shooting happened at a house in the 1500 block of Texas Avenue around 3 a.m.

The homeowner heard one man trying to open his back door and another man rummaging through his truck police said.

Investigators said the homeowner grabbed his gun and starting shooting through the back door until the men ran off.

About 5 minutes later, a man showed up at Metropolitan Methodist Hospital with a gunshot wound to the backside.

The man told police he was driving around with a friend on San Antonio's east side when he was shot.

But police said they are not buying his story.

He is facing a charge of burglary for the break-in of the truck which police said a tool box was stolen from.

He was transferred to San Antonio Military Medical Center and is expected to be okay.
