SAN ANTONIO --A man in his 40s in the middle of a divorce pulled out a gun and pointed it at his wife Friday in downtown San Antonio.

Police said officers received a call from a woman around 5 p.m. who said she saw a man going into a building in the 321 block of S. Flores carrying a weapon.

In the legal office, a witness claims she heard the distraught man say, "Stop. Stop." He was in the midst of signing the legal paperwork that would forward his case along.

Police said the man threatened to kill himself, but his lawyer would have none of it.

Attorney Armando Martinez pulled out his own gun and pointed it at the suspect, said the witness. Reportedly, Martinez instructed his client not to shoot or hurt anyone. He then ordered everyone out of the room.

Once outside, SWAT and negotiators on the scene talked with the suspect. One shot was fired, but it hit the ground.

After two and a half hours the suspect turned over his gun to authorities. No one was hurt.

The man was taken in for psychological evaluations.
