SAN ANTONIO -- A child injury investigation is underway Monday after an 8-year-old girl was hospitalized with burn wounds.
Police said the girl's mother discovered the injury after the child visited another family member. An investigation is unfolding to determine if the incident was criminal or an accident.
Police released little information, but investigators told KENS 5 they received a report around 1:30 a.m. that the child had been burned on her leg. Investigators said the mother brought the child to Methodist Children's Hospital after noticing the second-degree burn.
SAPD said the child was returning from a custodial visit ordered by the court, but that other relative had not been implicated or arrested.
SAPD and Child Protective Services are looking into the incident but say it's too early to determine if this was a criminal incident.
