KERRVILLE -- A Kerrville babysitter is in big trouble. Police say the 27-year-old woman was shoplifting and then assaulted a security guard when he tried to apprehend her.
Authorities say the woman walked into a Walmart Supercenter in the 1200 block of Junction Highway Saturday morning. She allegedly loaded her cart with $100 worth of toys and tried to walk out without paying. When the loss prevention specialist grabbed her arm, police say the woman punched the man several times in the chest, then ran off to a car and left the scene.
The babysitter had two children with her at the time. Police say she ditched those kids to get away from security.
The woman's actions were reportedly caught on tape, but police aren't releasing the video just yet.
"She did escape from the loss prevention officer and in the commission of the escape she did assault him," says Sgt. Mary Krebs with the Kerrville Police Department.
The suspect lives in the area and it is just a matter of time before she is hauled off to jail.
The kids who were innocently caught up in the drama are 8 years old and 9 years old. Their mother rushed to pick them up at the store.
The babysitter faces possible theft and assault charges, as well as charges of child endangerment.
