SAN ANTONIO -- A trip to a northwest-side neighborhood turned fatal for a San Antonio man delivering pizzas Wednesday.

Investigators said the 46-year-old victim had left his car running while he was out dropping off the food in the 6000 block of De Zavala Rd.

Witnesses told police the delivery man had seen someone get into his vehicle and attempt to drive off. That's when the man attempted to stop the alleged carjacking and was run over by the suspect, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

The victim was transported to University Hospital where he later died from head trauma and internal injuries.

Officers said the suspect fled the scene in the stolen vehicle. He is believed to be in his late-20s.

Police blocked off the area to search for the suspect with assistance from SAPD's Blue Eagle helicopter; however, he wasn't located. If caught, the suspect faces a charge of capital murder.

The incident happened just after 10:50 p.m.
