TERRELL, Texas –– North of Interstate 20, south of Spur 557, East of FM 148 is a plot of land that will soon be famous.
On Tuesday, Arch "Beaver" Aplin, the founder and owner of Buc-ee's will be in Terrell to seal the deal. The City Council is expected to vote Tuesday night to rezone that land to give the much-adored Texas-based chain of travel stops its first site in North Texas.
It will be one of Buc-ee's famous flagship stores.
"I'm excited! I love it!" said Chris Phillips, a Kaufman County resident who was shopping at the Terrell outlet mall Monday night. "Love the T-shirts, love walking around shopping. Gonna be a good place to go," he said.
Terrell's mayor said the Buc-ee's announcement will be just the beginning. He said Tuesday will also bring news of more development on that plot of land. It's where the Terrell Market Center has been advertised.
Buc-ee's flagship stores have an almost cult-like following, with people raving about the food, the shopping, and the famously-clean bathrooms. The flagship stores in places like Madisonville, and New Braunfels are tourist destinations.
If the City Council approves the deal Tuesday night, construction is expected to begin in Jan. 2014. And Buc-ee's is expected to open in Terrell in Nov. 2014.
