SAN ANTONIO -- An off-duty Bexar County deputy was seriously injured in a crash involving an intoxicated driver late Sunday evening, according to authorities.
At around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, the deputy pulled over to help the driver of a Mustang who was reportedly the victim of a hit and run. Police said the off-duty deputy's vehicle was hit by an SUV before she could get out of her vehicle and assist the stranded motorist.
The deputy was pinned in her vehicle as a result of the crash and later transported to San Antonio Military Medical Center in serious condition. Police said the driver of the SUV will face an intoxication assault charge. Once caught, the driver who triggered the initial hit and run crash will face a charge of failure to stop and render aid.
